Electricity demand trends in Europe: Declines across key markets in late March

During the week of March 24, electricity demand continued its downward trend across the main European markets, following a pattern similar to the previous week. The largest declines were observed in the British and Portuguese markets, with drops of 8.8% and 8.5%, respectively. In contrast, the German and Belgian markets experienced smaller decreases, with reductions of 1.7% and 1.3%, respectively. Notably, the Dutch market was an exception, where demand increased by 6.1%.

The decrease in demand was largely attributed to rising average temperatures. Temperature increases ranged from 0.2°C in Spain to 3.1°C in Italy. In France, average temperatures remained consistent with the previous week. However, in Belgium and the Netherlands, temperatures dropped by 1.8°C and 1.6°C, respectively.

Looking ahead to the week of March 31, AleaSoft Energy Forecasting predicts that the downward trend in electricity demand will persist across the main European markets, AleaSoft reports.
