Croatia: Over 5,500 new installations connected in first half of 2024

In the first half of 2024, a total of 5,504 solar power plants owned by citizens and businesses were connected to the distribution network, highlighting a growing recognition of the benefits of renewable energy. More citizens and entrepreneurs are choosing to install solar panels on their roofs, contributing to a strong trend of increasing applications for connections to the HEP Distribution System Operator (HEP ODS) network.

As of June 30, 2024, there are 21,089 solar power plants connected to the HEP ODS distribution network, with a total connected capacity of 641.851 MW. Among these, 15,444 plants belong to households, accounting for 105.944 MW of capacity, with 15,226 of those in the self-supply system. Meanwhile, the business sector has 5,645 solar power plants with a capacity of 535.907 MW, including 288 plants in the self-supply system.

HEP emphasizes that in the self-supply category, customers generate their own electricity and use it for personal needs, feeding any excess back into the network.

The distribution of solar power plants varies by region, with the Elektra Zagreb area leading with 3,694 connections, followed by Elektrodalmacija Split with 1,870, Elektroprimorje Rijeka with 1,749, Elektroistra Pula with 1,396, and Elektra Varazdin with 1,201 solar power plants.
