Croatia: LNG Hrvatska extends tender deadline for Krk terminal expansion project

LNG Hrvatska, the state-owned operator of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, has announced an amendment to the public procurement documentation for the modification of the FSRU vessel LNG Croatia. This change affects the tender launched on July 1, 2024, aimed at increasing the terminal’s capacity.

The tender includes two contracts with a combined value of €17 million: €15 million for the installation and commissioning of a new module and equipment, and €2 million for the procurement and installation of electrical equipment to integrate the FSRU with the new module. Due to numerous inquiries from potential bidders and delays caused by the holiday season, the deadline for bid submissions has been extended to September 3, 2024.

The expansion project will increase the Krk LNG terminal’s capacity from 2.9 billion cubic meters to 6.1 billion cubic meters per year, starting from the 2025/2026 gas year. The total investment for this project is approximately €40 million.

Last year, LNG Hrvatska signed a contract with Norwegian company Wartsila for the construction of an additional regasification module, which is being assembled in China and expected to be completed early next year. Croatian shipyards will be invited to compete for the installation of the module on the existing FSRU vessel. The successful bidder will need to complete the installation within tight deadlines, during which the Krk terminal will be out of operation for 45 days, but this will be scheduled outside the heating season.
