Croatia: Energy production increases, with higher hydropower and gas output in October

According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics’ short-term energy statistics for October 2024, Croatia’s net electricity production reached 1,315 GWh, marking an 8.3% increase compared to the same month last year, when production totaled 1,214 GWh.

In October 2024, hydropower plants generated 648 GWh, accounting for 49.3% of the total electricity produced. Thermal power plants contributed 372 GWh, or 28.3%, while wind farms produced 171 GWh, representing 13%. Solar power plants generated 49 GWh, or 3.7%, of the total electricity.

During this period, Croatia imported 902 GWh of electricity, a 2.2% increase compared to the previous October (883 GWh). Meanwhile, electricity exports rose by 13.5%, reaching 741 GWh, compared to 653 GWh in October 2023.

In terms of hydrocarbon production, Croatia produced 71 million cubic meters of natural gas in October 2024, marking an 18.3% increase from the same month last year. Natural gas imports totaled 230 million cubic meters, a 22.3% rise compared to October 2023. Crude oil production decreased by 4.7%, totaling 41,000 tons, while the production of petroleum products increased to 302,000 tons, up from 293,000 tons in October 2023.
