Croatia: CROPEX records 1.3 million MWh traded in July 2025 amid rising electricity prices

In July 2025, a total of 1,295,659.5 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity was traded on the Croatian energy exchange CROPEX, marking a 7.6 percent increase compared to June. Of the total volume, 1,006,999.9 MWh was traded on the day-ahead market, while 288,659.6 MWh was traded on the intraday market. Compared to July 2024, overall trading volume increased by 0.6 percent.

The average daily base price on the day-ahead market in July stood at 103.04 euros per MWh, representing a 19.8 percent rise from the previous month. The average euro-peak price reached 89.61 euros per MWh, up by 56.5 percent compared to June. On the intraday market, the average price was 102.07 euros per MWh, 16.3 percent higher than in the previous month.

CROPEX had 33 participants on the day-ahead market in July, the same number as in June, with 31 of them also active on the intraday market. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market during the month was 32,483.9 MWh.

CROPEX was established on March 11, 2016, in cooperation with Nord Pool, one of Europe’s leading electricity exchanges. It is jointly owned by the Croatian electricity transmission system operator (HOPS) and the Croatian electricity market operator (HROTE). The intraday market was introduced in April 2017. On June 19, 2018, following a joint project with Slovenian partners, the CROPEX day-ahead market was successfully coupled with the MRC markets through the Croatian-Slovenian border.
