Croatia: Acciona Energia secures 12-year CfD for 189 MW Promina solar project

Spanish renewable energy company Acciona Energia has secured a 12-year contract for difference (CfD) with the Croatian electricity market operator HROTE for its 189 MW Promina solar project. The CfD was awarded through a public auction under a support program initiated by the Croatian Government and HROTE, aimed at accelerating the deployment of renewable energy in alignment with European decarbonization targets.

The Promina solar power plant, currently in development, will be located in Sibenik-Knin County, southern Croatia. Acciona Energia will construct the power plant along with a new substation, with commissioning expected in 2027. The facility will feature over 300,000 solar panels, generating 320 GWh of electricity annually—enough to meet the demand of approximately 69,000 households. Once operational, Promina will become the largest solar power plant in Croatia.

Acciona Energia is no stranger to the Croatian renewable energy market. The company already owns and operates the 30 MW Jelinak wind farm, in operation since 2013, and is currently constructing the Opor and Boraja II wind farms. Both of these new wind farms, set to be operational in April and May 2025, respectively, also benefit from 12-year CfDs previously signed with HROTE.
