Bulgaria: TotalEnergies wins Bulgargaz tender for LNG supply at Alexandroupoli terminal

It looks like Bulgargaz is taking strategic steps to ensure a stable gas supply for the upcoming winter season by securing liquefied natural gas (LNG) through a tender process. Here’s a summary of the key points:

  1. Tender participation and award: Ten international companies took part in a tender by Bulgargaz for LNG supply at the Alexandroupoli terminal in Greece. TotalEnergies Gas and Power won the top position in the tender.
  2. Tender details: The tender was for five LNG cargoes, amounting to 5,000,000 MWh, scheduled for delivery from October 2024 to February 2025. Each cargo is planned for delivery once a month.
  3. Future tenders: Bulgargaz anticipates high interest in the remaining tenders, covering November and December 2024 and January and February 2025, suggesting they are preparing for a competitive market and potentially higher demand.
  4. Security of supply: The inclusion of LNG from the Alexandroupoli terminal is part of Bulgargaz’s strategy to ensure a secure gas supply for Bulgaria during the winter, especially considering the potential disruption of Russian gas deliveries through Ukraine starting in 2025.

This approach highlights Bulgargaz’s proactive measures in diversifying and securing its energy supply, ensuring reliability amidst geopolitical uncertainties.
