Bulgaria: Shell plans to build 64 EV charging points

Shell Bulgaria plans to install 64 electric vehicle charging points at 16 petrol stations in the country by the end of 2025, according to the company’s trading Director Bulgaria, Nikolay Bogdanov.Shell Bulgaria will partly finance the project with funding from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and is working on signing a framework agreement.

The company will consider working with local companies on the installation of the charging points on the hardware and software end.

Bogdanov explained that network capacity is probably the main challenge to widening the EV charging network. Consumer demand is also a factor in driving more investment into EV charging point installation. The investment required to connect EV points to the network at some sites in Bulgaria increases project costs to a point where it becomes commercially nonviable.

Shell Bulgaria has operational EV charging points at 18 of its service stations, developed in partnership with company Eldrive.
