Bulgaria, Government have made reassuring statements to calm down petrol panic buying in country

The business community and the Government have made reassuring statements to calm down petrol panic buying in Bulgaria.

Lukoil Bulgaria said that its oil refinery is operating at full capacity and has no problems with the deliveries of raw materials and it is meeting all of its commitments to its partners and the state.

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that there is no fuel shortage in Bulgaria as one tanker had been unloaded 2 March and two more were waiting. He added that the Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) will look into unusual price hikes at some petrol stations.

E-government Minister Bozhidar Bozhanov said that a disinformation campaign had led to panic buying. The combination of disinformation and some traders’ tendency to exploit people’s fears has led to price hikes and tension.
