Bulgaria: Energy production and consumption trends in September 2024

In September 2024, Bulgaria saw a decrease in electricity production, which fell by 6% compared to August, totaling 3,170 GWh. Electricity consumption also dropped by 10.9%, amounting to 2,350 GWh. In contrast, natural gas consumption increased by 3.3%, reaching 190 million cubic meters, while domestic production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.

When compared to September 2023, electricity production showed a slight increase of 0.7%, while consumption rose by 1.9%. Natural gas consumption was also higher by 6.1% compared to the same month in 2023.

In the fuels sector, Bulgaria experienced a significant drop in unleaded petrol production, which decreased by 13.3% to 124,000 tons. Petrol consumption also declined sharply by 27.1%, reaching 51,000 tons. Diesel production fell by 5.8%, totaling 262,000 tons, while consumption decreased by 33.3%, amounting to 188,000 tons.

On the other hand, the consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 2.8%, reaching 37,000 tons, though its production dropped by 30.8%, totaling 9,000 tons.

In the solid fuels sector, Bulgaria saw positive growth, with production increasing by 17.7% to 1,439 thousand tons. Consumption of solid fuels also rose by 15.5%, reaching 1,473 thousand tons in September 2024.
