Bulgaria: Electricity production at NPP Kozloduy in Q1 2021

Bulgaria’s sole nuclear power plant Kozloduy said that it has produced a total of 4,538 GWh of electricity in the first quarter of the year. Electricity production in March alone amounted to 1,585 GWh. The statement from the company said that unit 5 produced 2,307 GWh of electricity in Q1 2021, while unit 6 produced 2,231 GWh. Originally, NPP Kozloduy had six reactors, but four older 440 MW reactors were shut down in 2007 due to nuclear safety concern of the European Union. The plant currently operates two Soviet-built 1,000 MW reactors, unit 5 and unit 6 which were commissioned in 1987 and 1991 respectively.
