Bulgaria’s state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz has proposed a reduction in the wholesale price of natural gas to be applied in January 2026, reflecting continued easing in market conditions. According to the proposal, the price for January is expected to be around €31.2 per megawatt-hour (MWh), marking a 3.3% decrease compared with the price approved for December.
The current December price of approximately €32.2/MWh already represented a notable decline, having fallen by 4.3% compared to November. This downward trend suggests a period of relative price stability and moderation after earlier volatility in regional and European gas markets.
The final wholesale gas price for January 2026 will not be confirmed until the end of the year, when it is formally approved by Bulgaria’s Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR). Before that decision, Bulgargaz is expected to update its proposal to reflect the latest market developments, including supply dynamics and price movements.
As part of the regulatory process, the updated proposal will be subject to a public discussion scheduled for late December, allowing stakeholders and market participants to provide input. Only after this consultation and regulatory review will KEVR issue its final decision on the January gas price.
