Data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina shows that gross electricity production reached 1,061 GWh in September 2025, slightly higher than the 1,047 GWh recorded in the same month of 2024. Hydropower plants accounted for 20.7 percent of total gross production, thermal power plants for 71.6 percent, while wind and solar made up the remaining 7.7 percent.
Net hydropower production amounted to 218 GWh, marking a 7.9 percent year-on-year increase. Thermal power plants generated 687 GWh, a decline of 3.4 percent compared to September last year. Electricity production from renewable sources—wind and solar—rose significantly to 81 GWh, a 47.3 percent annual increase.
Electricity imports fell slightly by 0.6 percent to 345 GWh, whereas exports grew by 13.3 percent, reaching 553 GWh compared to 488 GWh in September 2024.
Lignite production in Bosnia and Herzegovina surged to 673,000 tons in September 2025, representing a 28.7 percent increase year-on-year. Meanwhile, brown coal production declined by 2.8 percent to 488,000 tons. Natural gas imports totaled 10.25 million cubic meters, down 1.4 percent from the same month in 2024.
