Bosnia and Herzegovina: January BiH gross electricity production

According to Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), gross electricity production in the country amounted to 2,043 GWh in January 2021, compared to 1,818 GWh in the same month last year. In total gross electricity production hydropower plants participated with the share of 43.1 %, thermal power plants with 55.5 % and solar and wind power plants with 1.4 %. Net production of hydropower plants amounted to 872 GWh in January 2021, which is 51.4 % more than in the same month in 2020. Thermal production amounted to 1,027 GWh, which is 6.6 % less than last January. Electricity production from renewable sources (wind and solar) reached 28 GWh. Electricity imports rose by 3 % to 204 GWh in January from last year’s 198 GWh, while exports increased by 37 % to 1,045 GWh (763 GWh in January 2020). Production of lignite in BiH amounted to 514,000 tons in January 2021, which is 15.6 % less compared to the same month last year, while the production of brown coal decreased by 21 % and amounted to 451,000 tons. Natural gas imports in January 2021 amounted to 36.654 million cubic meters, which is 1.3 % less than a year before (37.121 million cubic meters).
