Bosnia and Herzegovina: European Ombudsman investigates wind farm project

The European Ombudsman has launched an investigation into a wind farm project in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), citing potential legal violations and mishandling of information requests. However, the specific project under scrutiny has not yet been disclosed, according to the Ombudsman’s website.

Public opposition has recently intensified against the construction of the Orlovača wind farm in the Livno municipality. Following a public debate, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism rejected investor HB Wind’s request for a preliminary environmental impact assessment, effectively halting the project. One of the main concerns raised by local residents was the proximity of wind turbines to nearby villages.

Controversy has also surrounded the Ivovik wind farm, which recently received operational approval. Despite incomplete documentation, the project moved forward, prompting accusations from local residents that municipal authorities unlawfully seized their land.

Further details on the wind farm under investigation will be revealed once the European Ombudsman provides additional information on the case.
