Bosnia and Herzegovina: EPBiH reports 13.7 million euro loss in H1 2024

Bosnian state-owned power utility EPBiH reported a net loss of 13.7 million euros in the first half of 2024, up from a 12.5 million euro loss in the same period last year. According to the company, the increased loss is primarily due to the low sales price in the regulated domestic market, which did not cover the production costs of electricity. These production costs were driven higher by the rising purchase price of coal and increased coal transportation costs. Other contributing factors include unfavorable hydrological conditions, with less rainfall and snowfall than anticipated during the winter, and the stabilization of electricity, oil, and gas prices on global markets.

EPBiH’s total revenues decreased to 287.4 million euros in the first six months of 2024, down from 303.5 million euros in the same period of 2023. Total costs also fell, from 316 million euros last year to 301 million euros in 2024. The company recently revised its 2023 loss from an initial 71.5 million euros to 169 million euros.
