Bosnia and Herzegovina: Electricity production in the FBiH declines in January 2025

Gross electricity production in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) reached 630 GWh in January 2025, marking a 21.6% decline compared to the 804 GWh generated in January 2024.

Hydropower plants contributed 23.65% of total production, while thermal power plants accounted for 65.56%, and wind farms generated 10.79%. Net electricity production stood at 580 GWh, with hydropower plants producing 148 GWh, thermal power plants generating 364 GWh, and wind farms contributing 68 GWh.

Electricity imports surged to 254 GWh, a significant increase from 99 GWh in January 2024, while exports rose slightly to 148 GWh, compared to 141 GWh recorded in the same month last year.

Coal production saw an upward trend, with brown coal output reaching 344,755 tons—19.5% higher than the 288,402 tons produced in January 2024. Lignite production also increased by 10.8%, reaching 109,852 tons, compared to 99,141 tons last year.

Conversely, coke production dropped significantly, totaling 36,901 tons—a 40.9% decline from the 62,426 tons produced in January 2024.
