BiH: Electricity export halved to 4.1 TWh in H1

The physical volume of electricity exports from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first half of 2024 amounted to 4.1 TWh, which is four percent less than in the same period of the previous year, President of Regional CIGRE and honorary member of International CIGRE Edhem Bičakčić told Fena.

Based on the analysis of data from the Independent System Operator in BiH and the BiH Statistics Agency, Bičakčić added that the financial effect of that electricity export amounted to 276 million KM, which is 59 percent less than the same period in 2023.

The physical volume of net exports in the first half of this year amounted to 1.3 TWh, which represents a decrease of 45 percent, while from a financial point of view, net exports were 204 million KM, which is 61 percent lower.

The reason for the lower financial effects of exports is the reduced amount of exports and the increased amount of imports by 49 percent, but also the lower price of electricity on the exchanges compared to last year in the same period.

Base prices of electricity in July this year on the stock exchanges ranged around 150 euros per MWh, and in the evening hours up to 500 euros per MWh.
