Albania: Statkraft to build pump-storage HPP

Statkraft plans to expand its cascade hydropower complex on the Devoll river with the pump-storage hydropower plant Moglica, with an installed capacity of between 800 MW and 1.6 GW, that would be connected with the existing HPP Moglica.

Norwgin company signed a concession agreement with the Albanian Government, which needs Parliamen approval. This would be the first pump-storage HPP in Albania.

The upper reservoir will be built some 8 kilometers from the existing HPP Moglica reservoir, with the height difference of 620 meters. The feasibility study for the project should be completed next year, and if positive, pump-storage HPP Moglica should be commissioned in 2030. Statkraft owns and operates two hydropower plants in the Devoll river cascade, 84 MW Banja and 184 MW Moglica.
