Albania receives proposals for 235 MW of new solar projects

Albania’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has received expressions of interest from four companies looking to develop solar projects totaling 235 MW. According to the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), the four proposed projects include a 49.96 MW facility in the Finiq municipality in southern Albania, submitted by Greensol. The other projects include a 45 MW site in Divjakë, western Albania, proposed by Agro Iliria Group; a 100 MW project in Fier, southern Albania, from Euron Solar-PV; and a 40 MW site near the village of Shmil in eastern Albania, submitted by Rozafa.

Notably, these projects will not be subject to concessions or receive any support measures. ATA’s report highlights that Albania saw a fivefold increase in solar production last year, primarily due to the high efficiency of the Karavasta photovoltaic plant, a 140 MW facility developed by Voltalia.

In 2023, Albania also held a 300 MW solar tender, where nine bidders were shortlisted with an average bid price of €0.0513 ($0.054) per kWh, securing a total of 283.9 MW of capacity in July. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Albania had installed 163 MW of solar capacity by the end of 2023.
