Albania: Electricity production in Q3 2020

Electricity production in Albania in the second quarter of 2020 amounted to 1,280 GWh, which is 7.9 % higher compared to the same period last year (1,186 GWh), according to the data published by Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

The country’s electricity exports rose in the July-September 2020 period and amounted to 139.1 GWh, compared to 104.9 GWh in the same period in 2019, while electricity imports dropped to 665.6 GWh from last year’s 771.9 GWh. Almost all of Albania’s electricity in the third quarter of the year was generated by hydropower plants, with about 76.4 % of that amount produced by state controlled HPPs. Electricity network losses decreased by 5 % in July-September 2020 period to 325.1 GWh, with a drop in distribution losses (286.7 compared to 301.8 GWh in Q3 2019), as well as in transmission losses to 38.4 GWh from last year’s 40.7 GWh.
