Slovenian electricity market operator Borzen, in cooperation with the energy exchange BSP, conducted another round of auctions covering electricity sales from TPP Šoštanj as well as the procurement of carbon emission allowances.
The electricity auction focused on baseload power for two delivery periods in 2026: 1 January to 31 March and 1 October to 31 December. Five companies participated in the bidding, with HSE and GEN-I emerging as the most successful. Clearing prices for the individual lots ranged from approximately €108.7 to €109.7 per MWh.
Simultaneously, a separate auction was held to secure EU emission allowances (EUAs) necessary for TPP Šoštanj’s operation. Six bidders participated, including two Slovenian and four international companies. The auction covered the physical delivery of 312,000 EUAs, corresponding to the right to emit one ton of CO₂ each, for two periods: February to April 2026 and November 2026 to January 2027.
The strongest result in the carbon auction was achieved by Trafigura Trading, a Swiss-based subsidiary of the global commodities group Trafigura, which secured the majority of the offered volumes. GEN-I also won one lot. Prices for the emission allowances settled in a tight range of approximately €85.2 to €85.3 per EUA, reflecting stable market conditions.
