North Macedonia: Energy consumption and production in February 2025

In February 2025, total electricity consumption in North Macedonia reached 692,461 megawatt-hours (MWh). Natural gas consumption stood at 39.16 million cubic meters, coal consumption totaled 574,134 tons, and the use of petroleum products amounted to 85,541 tons.

Data from the State Statistical Office shows that 82.4% of the electricity consumed during the month was covered by domestic production. Additionally, 99.4% of the coal consumed was used for electricity generation.

Gross electricity production in February totaled 570,529 MWh, marking a 5.5% decrease compared to the same month in 2024. Thermal power plants produced 295,042 MWh, accounting for 51.7% of total output, which represents a 5.7% drop year-on-year. Hydropower plants generated 88,165 MWh (15.5%), a significant 28.8% decline. Combined heat and power (CHP) plants produced 145,913 MWh (25.6%), slightly down by 2.5%.

Other sources contributed as follows:

  • Wind power from the Bogdanci wind farm: 17,529 MWh (3.07%)
  • Biogas power plants: 3,797 MWh
  • Solar power plants: 20,083 MWh

Electricity imports rose to 206,024 MWh in February 2025, up from 150,344 MWh in the same month last year. Exports, however, decreased to 84,092 MWh from 131,680 MWh in February 2024.
