Serbia: EPS completes wind and solar installations as part of green energy push

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has successfully completed the installation of the 20th and final wind turbine at its first-ever wind farm in Kostolac, finalizing a renewable energy project with a total capacity of 66 MW.

In parallel, all solar panels have been installed at the nearby Petka solar power plant, which is scheduled to be connected to the electricity grid by the end of May. EPS General Manager Dušan Živković emphasized that both projects are major milestones in the company’s green energy strategy and will enhance its overall electricity production mix.

Živković confirmed that power generation and supply have remained stable throughout the winter and continue to reliably meet the needs of both residential and industrial consumers. Currently, coal stockpiles at thermal power plant sites stand at 1.7 million tons, while water reservoirs contain about 400 GWh of potential energy. EPS aims to increase coal reserves by 10% and reservoir levels by 20% in the upcoming month.

The newly operational B3 unit at the Kostolac thermal power plant, with a capacity of 350 MW, has also been performing reliably. Still under warranty, the unit is expected to serve as a key pillar of Serbia’s electricity system for decades to come, with ongoing technical fine-tuning to ensure optimal performance.

Živković also noted that initial steps have begun for the Bistrica pumped-storage hydropower plant, including the development of technical documentation and funding arrangements. Early-stage infrastructure work has already started on the site.
