Romania: Electricity prices on OPCOM market experience significant changes in March 2025

In March 2025, the average electricity price on the day-ahead market of the Romanian energy exchange OPCOM reached 106.36 euros/MWh, marking a 67.66% increase compared to the same month in 2024, but a 32.33% decrease from the previous month’s average baseload price of 157.19 euros/MWh.

The total traded volume on the day-ahead market in March was 1.35 million MWh, representing a 36.96% decrease from March 2024, though it showed a slight increase of 1.78% from February 2025. The average traded volume for the month was 1,812.6 MWh/h.

The overall transaction value for March 2025 was 143.9 million euros, which is 1.91% higher than March 2024 (141.2 million euros), but 32.96% lower than the previous month’s total of 214.6 million euros. The share of the day-ahead market in the forecasted net consumption for March 2024 was 30.58%.

On the intraday market, a total of 203,607.4 MWh was traded, reflecting a 15.36% increase compared to March 2024, but a slight decline of 2.34% from February 2025. The average price on the intraday market was 94.94 euros/MWh, showing a 51.81% increase from March 2024 but a 37.52% decrease from the previous month.

Additionally, the total traded volume for bilateral contracts with delivery in March amounted to 1.329 million MWh, with an average price of 103.42 euros/MWh.
