Hungary: March 2025 sees significant drop in electricity prices on HUPX day-ahead market

In March 2025, the average electricity price on the day-ahead market of the Hungarian energy exchange HUPX dropped significantly, reaching 108.9 euros/MWh. This marks a 31% decrease compared to February’s average baseload price of 158.88 euros/MWh. The average peak price on the HUPX day-ahead market also saw a notable decline, falling by 40% to 100.61 euros/MWh.

The total traded volume on the day-ahead market amounted to 2.65 million MWh, which represents a 6% increase compared to February’s 2.49 million MWh and a 4.7% increase compared to March 2024, when 2.53 million MWh were traded. The average daily traded volume for March stood at 85,485 MWh.

On the intraday market, the total traded volume reached 963,354 MWh, a 7% increase compared to the previous month. The average daily traded volume on this market was 31,076 MWh. The average price for the hourly product in March was 103.18 euros/MWh, marking a 33% decrease compared to February.
