Slovenia: HSE to invest 120 million euros in renewable energy expansion and infrastructure projects

Slovenia’s largest renewable energy producer, HSE, has revealed plans to invest 120 million euros this year to expand its electricity generation capacity, maintain existing infrastructure, and undertake reconstruction projects. According to Miha Pecovnik, Executive Director responsible for development and investments, these efforts are aligned with Slovenia’s national climate goals and the green transition.

One of the company’s most significant initiatives is the development of large-scale solar power plants. HSE expects to complete two solar projects later this year: the 8 MW Kanalski Vrh solar power plant and the 9.8 MW expansion of the Prapretno facility.

Looking ahead, HSE also plans to build Slovenia’s first floating solar power plant on Druzmir Lake, with construction expected to start next year. Once operational, the plant will generate 140 GWh annually, supporting renewable energy for hydrogen production in the Sostanj region.

Hydropower remains a cornerstone of HSE’s strategy, with the company advancing plans for three new hydropower plants along the Sava river. The company hopes to obtain construction permits by 2027, paving the way for project execution. Additionally, HSE is exploring wind energy, preparing to launch its first wind project—the 1 MW Mali Log wind farm—designed as a research and development venture to gain experience in wind energy operations.

These initiatives reflect HSE’s commitment to supporting Slovenia’s green transition and enhancing its role in the country’s energy independence.
