Hungary: HUPX day-ahead and intraday markets see growth in volume and membership

In 2024, the HUPX day-ahead market saw a total traded volume of 30.98 TWh, a 19% increase compared to the 26.05 TWh traded in 2023. The average electricity price on the day-ahead market was 100.81 euros/MWh, marking a 6% decrease from the previous year’s average baseload price of 106.82 euros/MWh. The average HUPX DAM peak price in 2024 was 100.71 euros/MWh, down 8% from the 2023 peak price. The average daily traded volume on the day-ahead market in 2024 amounted to 84,654 MWh.

On the intraday market, the total traded volume reached 8,960,456 MWh in 2024, which represents a 31% increase from the previous year. The average daily traded volume on the intraday market was 24,482 MWh, with the average price for the hourly product at 102.43 euros/MWh—7% lower than the 2023 average.

HUPX also saw significant growth in membership in 2024. A total of 19 new members joined both the intraday and day-ahead markets, further strengthening the market’s activity.
