Bosnia and Herzegovina approves financing agreement for Poklecani wind farm construction

The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has approved the Draft Financing Agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the construction of the Poklecani wind farm. The project will be located in the northern part of the Posusje municipality and will include the installation of 20 wind turbines with a total capacity of 132 MW. The wind farm is expected to produce approximately 436.96 GWh of electricity annually and will be connected to the national electricity transmission network.

The financing agreement involves a €103.5 million loan with a repayment period of 25 years, including a five-year grace period. The funds will be allocated to the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the project will be implemented by the state-owned power utility EP HZHB. This wind farm is expected to increase the company’s annual electricity production by about 20%, reducing its dependence on hydrological conditions and electricity market fluctuations.

The construction of the Poklecani wind farm will boost renewable energy production in Bosnia and Herzegovina and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. It is aligned with the country’s commitments under the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. The draft agreement, along with its terms, will now be submitted to the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for further review and approval.
