Bulgaria: IBEX day-ahead market sees increased trading volume in October

In October 2024, the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX) saw a total of 2,419,431.2 MWh of electricity traded on its day-ahead market, marking a 2.1% increase compared to September. The average daily traded volume for the month was 78,046.2 MWh. This represents an 18% rise in traded volume compared to October 2023.

The average baseload price on the day-ahead market for October was 89.36 euros/MWh, which is a 16.4% decrease from September’s price of 106.94 euros/MWh. Similarly, the average peak price for October was 94.26 euros/MWh, down 14.1% from the previous month.

The IBEX day-ahead market maintained a steady number of participants, with 123 registered traders in both September and October.

On the intraday continuous market, trading volume fell by 8.5%, totaling 258,012.5 MWh. The average weighted price on this market was 89.09 euros/MWh, reflecting a significant 17.8% drop from the previous month.

Overall, October 2024 saw higher trading activity on the day-ahead market, while prices for both baseload and peak electricity decreased compared to the previous month.
