Bulgaria: Electricity production declines while consumption rises in August

In August 2024, Bulgaria experienced a 3.6% decrease in electricity production compared to July, totaling 3,373 GWh. In contrast, electricity consumption rose by 4.5%, reaching 2,638 GWh. Natural gas consumption saw a significant increase of 19.5%, amounting to 184 million cubic meters, while production remained unchanged at 1 million cubic meters.

When compared to August 2023, electricity production increased by 3.2%, with consumption rising by 1.3%. Natural gas consumption also grew, up 10.2% year-on-year.

In terms of petroleum products, unleaded petrol production rose by 2.1% to 143,000 tons, while consumption surged by 22.8% to 70,000 tons. Conversely, diesel production fell by 7% to 278,000 tons, despite an 8.9% increase in consumption, which reached 282,000 tons.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption decreased significantly, down 25% to 36,000 tons, while production held steady at 13,000 tons. Additionally, production of solid fuels declined by 16.5% to 1,223 thousand tons, and consumption also dropped by 15.2% to 1,275 thousand tons.
