Bosnia and Herzegovina: FBiH reports 13.3% drop in electricity production for September

In September 2024, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) saw a decline in gross electricity production, totaling 502 GWh—down 13.3% from 579 GWh in September 2023. The breakdown of production sources shows hydropower plants contributing 31.87%, thermal power plants accounting for 62.35%, and wind farms making up 5.78%.

Net electricity production reached 467 GWh, with hydropower generating 159 GWh, thermal power plants producing 279 GWh, and wind farms contributing 29 GWh. Electricity imports rose to 122 GWh, up from 83 GWh in the same month last year, while exports fell to 118 GWh from 141 GWh in September 2023.

In terms of coal production, brown coal output decreased to 332,961 tons, reflecting a 2.3% drop from 340,788 tons in 2023. Lignite production, however, increased by 2.7% to 125,449 tons, compared to 122,208 tons the previous year. Conversely, coke production saw a significant decline, totaling 34,037 tons—down 48.7% from 66,369 tons in September 2023.
