Iberian Peninsula sees solar production rise, other European markets decline

During the week of October 14, solar photovoltaic energy production saw an uptick in the Iberian Peninsula compared to the previous week. Spain led the charge with an 11% increase, while Portugal experienced a 5.2% rise, marking a reversal after five consecutive weeks of declining production. Notably, on October 17, Portugal achieved its second-highest daily solar photovoltaic output for the month, generating 14 GWh, following the record set on the first day of October, reports AleaSoft.

In contrast, the Italian, French, and German markets reported decreases in solar production. Italy faced the largest drop at 31%, while Germany saw a modest decline of 2.9%. France’s solar output fell by 16%. The Italian market has now seen a downward trend for three consecutive weeks, and the French market has repeated a similar pattern for two weeks.

Forecasts from AleaSoft Energy Forecasting indicate that solar energy production is expected to rise in Germany and Spain during the fourth week of October, while Italy’s production will likely continue to decline.

In terms of wind energy, the third week of October also experienced a reduction in output across major European markets. Italy reported the largest decrease at 50%, followed closely by Portugal and Germany with drops of 46% and 33%, respectively. Spain’s wind production fell by 15%, while France had the smallest decline at 6.9%. This marks the third consecutive week of falling wind energy production in the French market, with further declines anticipated across all analyzed markets according to AleaSoft’s forecasts, reports AleaSoft.
