Romania has huge renewable energy potential

Romania ranks second in the CEE region, after Poland, in terms of renewable energy production potential, but it must accelerate the transition with the help of financing mechanisms, according to Deloitte Romania managing partner Alexandru Reff.

He added that in 2022 the share of renewables in energy production in Romania reached 43%, including 16% from wind and solar. However, if these figures are compared to the targets for 2030 established by the integrated National Plan in the field of energy and climate change, namely 55.8% renewable energy, of which 35 % wind and solar, it is clear that Romania needs to speed up the transition, mainly with the help of financing mechanisms within the PNRR and the Modernization Fund.

Increasing the share of renewable energy is a priority both for countries that have established generous financial support schemes and for companies. Energy from renewable sources can play a central role both in decarbonization efforts and could contribute decisively to ensuring the energy security of Romania and Europe.
