Slovenia rejected around 20% of solar power plant applications in the last year

Around 29,700 applications for approval for the connection of self-sustaining solar power plants were submitted in Slovenia in 2022, of which approximately 5,750 were rejected or limited in terms of capacity, representing 19.4% of the total number.

By the end of June 2023, Slovenia had about 39,700 solar power plants, of which 35,630 were self-sustaining, according to data from the distribution system operator SODO. At the same time, around 13,400 applications for self-sustaining solar power plant connection had been submitted, of which around 3,000 were rejected or limited due to capacity constraints, representing a share of 22.4%.

The majority of rejections or capacity limitations occurred in the area of Elektro Maribor, followed by Elektro Ljubljana, and then Elektro Celje. There were fewer rejections in the Elektro Primorska region and even fewer in the Elektro Gorenjska region.

By the end of June, around 39,700 solar power plants were connected to the distribution grid in Slovenia with a total capacity of 899.5 MW. Of these, 35,630 solar power plants were connected under the self-sustaining regime, primarily small household installations, with a total capacity of 458 MW. There were 4,070 solar power plants with measured electricity production, mainly larger installations, with a total capacity of 441.5 MW.
