Greece, Cost of coal-fired electricity generation surpassed the cost of gas-fired electricity generation

For the first time since the start of energy crisis and the introduction of a temporary recovery mechanism, the cost of coal-fired electricity generation surpassed the cost of gas-fired electricity generation in Greece.

For March, the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) set a regulated price of 227.27 euros/MWh for lignite-fired power plants, compared to 191.73 euros/MWh for gas-fired ones.

A surcharge of 10 euros/MWh imposed on natural gas intended for electricity generation has also been taken into the account.

For comparison, in January, RAE set the regulated price of 216.27 euros/MWh for lignite-fired power plants and 343.64 euros/MWh for gas-fired power plants.

The prices were close to each other in February, with coal still being slightly lower, which changed in March for the first time since the introduction of the mechanism.
