Region, Growth in electricity consumption by 4%, to 16.6 TWh

The demand for electricity in Southeast Europe in the period from December 12 to 18, 2022 increased moderately in all markets, except Greece, by about 3.7%, to a total of 16.6 TWh, as a result of the breakthrough of the cold front towards in the northern part of the region, with falling temperatures.

The highest growth in demand for electricity in the SEE region was recorded in Serbia and Croatia, where weekly electricity consumption increased by 4.6% and 5.6%, respectively, compared to the previous week.

Demand for electricity in Hungary and Bulgaria increased by 3.3% and 2.4%, respectively. On the other hand, Greece recorded a 2.5% drop in electricity demand, to a total of 890.5 GWh, due to unusually mild weather in the south of the region. Romania kept its demand relatively stable compared to last week – rising by less than 1%, to 1.15 TWh.
