Greece, Number of consumer supplier switches dropped by 20 % in October

The number of Greek residential consumers switching their electricity supplier dropped by 20 % in October 2022, compared to the same month last year.

A little over 80,000 consumers switched electricity suppliers in October, down from around 100,000 in the same month a year earlier.

The number of consumers who changed their electricity supplier in October was also lower compared to September this year, when 93,500 consumers switches, a decrease of 14 %. In the first ten months of 2022, consumer switches increased slightly by 2.5 %, compared to the same period last year.

These figures indicate that consumers are now increasingly hesitant to move from one supplier to another, after a period of intense supplier switches earlier this year.

The number of consumer switches increased steadily through the first half of 2022, ahead of the energy crisis measures which were about to be implemented as of 1 July. A rise in the number of residential consumers resorting to the universal electricity supply service, which is supplying “black -listed” consumers who have been rejected by previous suppliers over payment failures, was observed in the first six months of the year. In May 2022 alone, some 170,000 low-voltage consumers have changed their electricity supplier.
