Bulgaria, St. Nikola wind farm produced a total of 210,355 MWh of electricity in H1 2022

AES Bulgaria said that its St. Nikola wind farm produced a total of 210,355 MWh of electricity in the first half of 2022, which is by 22 % more compared to the same period last year.

The statement from the company said that electricity produced in H1 2022 was enough o cover the demand of some 116,000 Bulgarian households. Thus, it can be said that the entire municipality of Varna used only renewable electricity in the first six months of 2022 and was carbon neutral regarding their electricity consumption.

Saint Nikola wind park is located near the town of Kavarna on the Black Sea coast. It was built in 2009 and put into operation a year later. It has 52 wind turbines with power output of 3 MW each. The total investment in the project was 270 million euros, of which 198 million euros was provided by a bank consortium including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the International Financial Corporation (IFC) and UniCredit Bank.
