Serbia, Country needs new natural gas suppliers

According to Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy Rasa Kojcic, Serbia has only one natural gas supplier (state-owned Srbijagas), but it is working to enable new suppliers to enter the market as of 2023, thus increasing the country’s supply route diversification and energy security.

Kojcic reminded that the construction of gas interconnection with Bulgaria started earlier this year, which will allow Serbia to connect to Greece and diversify its supply via LNG terminals and Southern Gas Corridor.

In order to increase energy security, along with new suppliers and new supply routes, Serbia needs new gas storage capacities, which includes both the expansion of the existing facility in Banatski Dvor and the construction of new storage capacities.

Kojcic said that increased storage capacity will safeguard the Serbian market from possible disruptions in natural gas supply, especially during the winter season when consumption in much higher compared to summer months.
