Slovenia, Westinghouse to develop AP1000 nuclear power plant projects in Central and Eastern Europe with Slovenian companies

The US company Westinghouse Electric Company has signed memoranda of understanding with Slovenian companies Numip, Elmont and Sipro on cooperation in the development of potential AP1000 nuclear power plant projects across Central and Eastern Europe, the statement said.

“These partnerships will allow us to work hand in hand with leading local suppliers to deliver the highest international standards of quality, safety and reliability in Slovenia and Europe,” said Elias Gedeon, senior vice president of commercial operations at Westinghouse. on Wednesday.

Numip provides engineering, construction and maintenance services for conventional energy and processes in a variety of industries, Elmont provides ongoing support for electrical equipment maintenance, while Sipro provides project planning and management solutions, technology and product development support, the statement added.

Westinghouse announced in January that it had signed memoranda of understanding with ten companies in Poland covering cooperation on the potential deployment of six AP1000 power plants for the Polish nuclear power plant program and other potential AP1000 reactor projects in Central and Eastern Europe.

The AP1000 is a nuclear power plant designed and sold by Westinghouse, and was first commissioned at China’s Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant in 2018. The plant uses a pressurized water reactor with improved use of passive nuclear safety and design features in order to reduce its capital costs.
