Croatia, HOPS announced that a 58 million euros worth project

Croatian electricity transmission system operator HOPS announced that a 58 million euros worth project for the rehabilitation of submarine 110 kV cables connecting several islands to the mainland has been launched.

The statement from the operator said that the rehabilitation project is listed among Croatia’s strategic projects and will be fully financed from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) from 2021 to 2026. The project aims to secure both electricity deliveries to the islands and future transmission of electricity generated from renewables there.

In the first phase of the project, 13 kilometers of new undersea cables will be laid to connect the islands of Brac and Krk to the mainland. The works will be carried out by local engineering company Koncar Inzenjering under a 12 million euros contract.

For the second phase of the project, a tender will be launched next month for the replacement of existing submarine cable links to the islands of Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Krk, Cres and Losinj. The estimated value of the works in the second phase is 43 million euros.
