Greece, Electricity generated from renewable energy sources reached 17,193 GWh in 2021

According to data published by Greek electricity transmission system operator ADMIE, electricity generated from renewable energy sources reached 17,193 GWh in 2021, which is by 16.2 % more compared to 2020. This is also all-time high RES output for Greece.

The abovementioned data does not include hydrobased generation, which also finished 2021 with all-time high figure of 5,293 GWh or 82.5 % higher compared to 2020.

This means that, by combining RES and hydro output, green energy was accounted for 46.1 % of Greek electricity production in 2021, which
amounted to 48,721 GWh.

Lignite-fired electricity generation fell by 7 % in 2021, reaching 5,341 GWh.

Also, Greek electricity consumption in 2021 rose by 4.7 % year-on-year to 52,322 GWh, reaching pre-pandemic levels again.

The share of state-controlled Public Power Corporation (PPC) in domestic retail electricity market was 63.9 % at the end of 2021.
