Slovenia, Suppliers will increase electricity prices for residential consumers

The majority of electricity suppliers in Slovenia announced that they will increase electricity prices for residential consumers as of 1 January 2022.

Energija Plus Maribor announced the increase of electricity price by 30 %, but since this item accounts for roughly a third of the electricity bill, the final increase should be around 10 %.

Energetika Ljubljana already increased the price of its district heating service on 1 December by 20 %, from 59.8 to 75.3 euros/MWh.

However, GEN-I said that it will not increase residential electricity prices until spring 2022.

Petrol said, back in October, that it will increase the price of electricity by around 30 % and natural gas by 12 % as of 1 December, citing higher energy prices on international markets as the reason.

Among 16 electricity suppliers operating in the Slovenian market, GEN-I is the cheapest, followed by Telekom Slovenia (which will seize operations in 2022) and Sonce Energija. The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive supplier is 65 %.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that the impact of increased energy prices could be mitigated by reducing some margins and introducing energy vouchers for vulnerable consumers.
