Bulgaria, Production of electricity in Bulgaria in the first eight months of 2021 increased by 11.4 %

According to the data published by Bulgarian electricity transmission system operator ESO, production of electricity in Bulgaria in the period between 1 January and 29 August 2021 has increased by 11.43 % compared to the same period in 2020 and reached 30.03 TWh.

In addition, Bulgaria’s electricity consumption rose NT in the same period, by 4.85 % reaching a total of 25.57 TWh. Surplus electricity amounted to 4.46 so far in 2021, 74.19 % more than in the same period in 2020. Baseload power plants (coal, nuclear) produced a total of 23.89 TWh of electricity in 2021 so far, which is 7.54 % more than in 2020.

The share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the transmission network dropped by 6.7 % to 857.3 GWh, while RES share in the country’s distribution network decreased by 2.58 % to 1,339.8 GWh.
