Romania, Ikea to merge all its wind capacity in Romania in one company

Ingka, the company within the IKEA Group which controls seven companies in the Romanian wind energy sector, has decided that one of them will absorb all the others.

According to the company, the consolidation will bring financial, logistical and operational benefits. Ingka owns wind farms in Romania with a total capacity of 171 MW which produced about 290 GWh of electricity in 2020.

In September 2019, Ingka announced that it would buy 80 % stake in several wind farms in Romania (Pantelimon, Pegasus, and Apollo) from Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for 136 million euros. The acquisition consists of 64 turbines with installed capacity of 171 MW and comes after a previous stake purchase in Germany’s second-biggest offshore wind farm earlier this year. Overall, Ingka now owns 900,000 solar modules on its sites and 534 wind turbines in 14 countries.
