Slovenia: Energy dependency in 2020

In Slovenia domestic energy resources covered 55 % of domestic energy needs in 2020, which is 3 % more compared to the previous year, while the entire quantities of petroleum products were imported, according to the data from the Statistical Office of Slovenia.

This is mainly due to decreased import of petroleum products and increased domestic energy production. Total amount of domestic energy sources in Slovenia in 2020 was 3.7 million tons of oil equivalent, which is by 5 % more than in 2019. Total primary energy supply of Slovenia in 2020 was 6.4 million tons of oil equivalent, which is by 5 % less than in 2019. The supply of petroleum products decreased the most, namely by 16 %. In the structure of supplied energy in 2020, petroleum products prevailed with 29 %, followed by nuclear energy with 25 %, renewable energy sources (including hydro energy) with 19 %, coal with 16 % and natural gas with 11 %. Slovenia’s energy dependency in 2019 stood at 48 %.
