Albania: SPP construction tender launched by KESH

A tender for the construction of a solar power plant with installed capacity of 5.143 MW in northern Albania was launched recently by Albanian state-owned Power Corporation (KESH). This tender worth some 3.8 million euros.

Earlier this month, Albanian Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced that KESH has applied for a permit for the construction of a solar power plant in northern Albania, which will be located near the Vau te Dejes hydropower plant.

According to tender notice, works on the construction of the plant should be completed within 4 months. The deadline for bids submission is 19 February.

In late 2018, KESH has applied for the construction permit for a floating solar power plant with installed capacity of 12.9 MW in the northern part of the country. It is planned that solar panel will float on the water reservoir of hydropower plant Vau te Dejes. The electricity produced by this solar park will be sold on the free market and electricity transmission system operator OST has already agreed in principle on the connection of the future plant to the national transmission network. Last year, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said that it is considering supporting KESH regarding the project for the floating solar power plant. The bank said that it may cover the project’s cost of 9.75 million euros with a secured loan provided to a special purpose vehicle established for the development of this project.
