Romania: ANRE appointed Tinmar Energy as the supplier of last resort

As a supplier of last resort for the month of January, the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) has appointed independent electricity trader and supplier Tinmar Energy.

Therefore, in the month of January, customers whose supplier goes to bankruptcy or faces closure will be automatically assigned to Tinmar Energy. These customers will be able to choose their own supplier on the competitive market and sign a supply contract with it, but until they do so, they will be supplied by Tinmar.

Tinmar Energy won a tender for this position, with a price 64.9 euros/MWh (not including transport, distribution, other fees, excises and VAT). Its offer was lower than those of traditional established suppliers such as Enel, CEZ, Engie E.ON or Electrica.

Tinmar’s offer for universal service, for those residential customers who failed to conclude a supply contract on the competitive market prior to full market liberalization on 1 January, is also more favorable compared to offers of other suppliers. According to Transelectrica’s data, in the last ten months of 2020, Tinmar Energy had a market share of 6.26 % of electricity sold to end consumers.
