Albania: Five auctions for electricity imports by OSHEE in the last four weeks

In the period from the first week of November to the first week of December alone, the Albanian electricity distribution system operator OSHEE conducted five auctions on the free market to buy significant quantities of electricity. A total of about 230,000 MWh was bought on this market, for which about 19.3 million euros were paid. OSHEE is facing significant difficulties this year in providing electricity to cover consumption in the country. The largest quantities of electricity were purchased in mid-November, when over 5 million euros were spent on the auction.

This year is very difficult for OSHEE – tens of millions of euros were spent on purchases on the unregulated market, and the company also has big problems in collecting bills. Although, electricity production in somewhat higher compared to 2019. Namely, in the third quarter of the year, Albania produced a total of 1,280 GWh of electricity, which is by 8 % more compared to the same period last year.
